One of the most popular places to go in the city is the Santana Row, which is a very up-and-coming outdoor shopping area just west of downtown. It’s here that you’ll be able to get great meals, and shop at some of the best designer brands in the world. Most of the businesses close at 9 p.m., but there are also several restaurants and bars that will stay open later for those who are part of the late-night crowds.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph is by far one of the most incredible buildings in the region, and it is also one of the oldest churches in northern California, but the building is a reincarnation of an older basilica that was damaged by earthquakes in the 19th century. It’s located downtown on Market Street, and if you are interested in scheduling a formal tour you must make a reservation online at the cathedral’s website.
Another notable destination in San Jose is the very famous Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, which is great for the whole family and allows for incredible experiences diving back in time to one of the world’s oldest and most mysterious civilizations. With more than 4,000 Ancient Egyptian artifacts on store, this is one of the most elaborate Egyptian exhibits not only in California, but the entire United States. It’s just a few miles west of downtown and only costs $9 per admission.
Of course San Jose also has many other great museums including the Tech Museum of Innovation, which is great for kids and adults, and the San Jose Museum of Art, which is a modern art museum primarily featuring works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
