Pleasanton, California is a wealthy suburb of the Bay Area that is located 25 miles east of Oakland and has a current population of just over 70,285 people. Pleasanton didn't become the name of the region until 1893, and prior to then the area was called Alisal, which became famous during the California Gold Rush in the mid-19th century. Although later on the city was named after Major General Alfred Pleasonton, the U.S. Postal Service's typo established the current spelling.
Today, Pleasanton remains one of the most architecturally diverse cities in northern California with its historic downtown area containing many preserved buildings dating back to the mid-19th century. Pleasanton is also considered one of the richest cities in the entire country.

Pleasanton is a city almost entirely full of families with over 76% of all households in the city belonging to over 19,200 families in total. The average family size is 3.20 and has been growing in recent years.
